Butchering

Last weekend we went to some friends of ours in Chambersburg to butcher pigs. It was alot of fun, as always. The first picture is of cracklins (fried pig fat) that you eat with salt. The second is of pig liver and heart. (both are very tasty). The third is all the bones and head meat. We picked the meat of all the bones and cooked it down to make puddings and scrapple. The last picture is of them cooking it down. I will post more pics shortly.

Cancelled

Last night, church was cancelled. I know. I know. Some people think that cancelling church is a sin (or close to it), but none-the-less, church was cancelled. How convinient for Valentine's Day!! I announced our cancelled service on our phone tree service and Pastor Tolley soon called back. He said, "You sounded way to excited in that announcement". Well, I could be holier-than-thou and say, "no way, I was really miffed because we cancelled", but then I would be lying (not good for pastors, you know). I will say, I really enjoying being snowed in. We had coffee, played games and spent time with the ones I love most on Valentine's Day 2007.

Sleddin'

Justin and Kayla are really enjoying the snow. All-in-all, we had 8-10 inches. Finally, winter. Now that we had a snow, we gladly welcome spring.

It's Here

Our first real snow is finally here. Our weather forcast are calling for 11-15 inches when all is done. Which means we may get 4-5. Any way, we will take it. As you have noticed, i have become a little slack concerning my blog. My apologies. There is nothing more boring than continuing to go to a blog and find it the same. I will try to do better. Not that the content will be life-changing, but none-the-less, I will post more often in the future.

Youth Convention 2007

Youth Convention 2007 is now history. At least the actual convention is over. The effects of the convention will continue for years to come. God helped in a very special way this year, for which we are all grateful. Rev. Hynes did a great job in speaking and was so impressed by the convention that he is planning on bringing his youth from Idaho next year. This year, even though we were threatened by snow and bad weather, was successful. Many young people were helped and at least one young man answered a call to preach. Even though the weather was harsh, we still had great crowds. Some evenings the attendance was well over 400. There is so many good things about the convention we could write pages. There is no doubt God is blessing the Central Pennsylvania Youth Convention. Thank God for His help.

This was the response Justin gave someone who asked him where his Grandpa Hallenbeck was. Don has been at Hobe Sound Bible College doing some work for the school for a couple of weeks. It's amazing what kids think of.

A Very Merry Christmas

Christmas was good this year. We enjoyed visiting family in upstate New York. We left for New York Sunday evening after our Candlelight service. Christmas day was spent at the Hallenbecks. Hours were spent eating and throwing darts, (a family tradition when Donny and I are together). Tuesday, we went to the Quintanas. It was here we ate more food and threw more darts, played Rook and ate some more. We left Wednesday evening about 10:00.
Kayla got clothes, a tunnel playground set, 64 baby dolls, (slight exaggeration) and a variety of other toys. Justin's big toy was a double basketball hoop. One of the those indoor basketball hoops that keeps track of shots, has a timer and returns your balls to you. He loves it. Vonnie got a carpet shampooer, perfume, clothes, boots, etc. I had a Xbox Christmas. Vonnie and Laura got me a Xbox console. Don and Val got me a VGA converter, thus allowing me to connect straight into my computer. Ronnie got me an extra controller and Lonnie got me Madden Footbal 06. Now that Christmas is over, (and yew Joel it has been over in America for 12 days) I will try to update my blog as often as possible. Happy New Years to you all.

At Last

The time has come where we can finally "sit back and relax" the Christmas season. All of the "big" church activities are done. We had a successful Christmas play entitled, "That Stupid Christmas Play". Over 150 people were in attendance. Keith and Connie Forney, Eric and Jill Susan, Laura Ellison and Jonathan Gessner were the main actors this year. Penn View Choir was with us this past Sunday evening. They sounded the best that I have heard them for a while. Monday evening we were at Beavertown's Christmas play entitled, "An Unconstitutional Christmas". Yesterday we went Christmas shopping in Harrisburg, PA. We ate at Red Robin and enjoyed some excellent BBQ ribs. Wow...delicious. We hope everyone is enjoying the season!

Who's First?

As you read the news, you soon realize that we may experience a "first" this next election. As Americans, I believe that we will soon see either a black president or a woman president. The question is, who will be first? Well, since you asked, my opinion is....a black president. America is not ready for a woman president. Especially one like Hillary Clinton. My great prediction is that Hillary Clinton will never see the inside of the Oval Office as president.

Christmas Dinner '06

Our church Christmas dinner was this past Friday evening. We had over 90 people come and enjoy a wonderful evening of food and fellowship. Wesley Whitaker was there to play Christmas music on his trumpet. He did an excellent job. As you can see, our theme was candy canes. Vonnie, Gwen, Jill, and Connie did an excellent job in decorating. When it was all said and done, it was a good evening.

Yeah that's right...a girl!

The winner of our deer season this year at New Columbia God's Missionary Church was, yes, a girl. Jonetta Hazzoum shot a beautiful 14 point buck just a stone's throw away from our house. Congratulations Jonetta.

Road Rash

Last night Paul Miller and I had to go to Giesinger Hospital to pick up someone from the hospital. We were passing the Evan. Hospital when I looked into my side mirror and said to Paul, "This dude is flying." I no sooner had said this when he was nearly at our side. I watched him bump the bumper of the car next to me and the rest is history. His bike slid out from under him and he was soon sliding by me on his back. I pulled off the road and got out to help him. He got up swearing and cursing. We helped him move his bike off the road. By now the police arrived and me in my blood soaked clothes got back into my van and journeyed on tho Giesinger.

Lefty?

It looks like we may have a lefty in the Ellison family. It seems like Kayla does an awful lot with her left hand. As you can see, she writes with it as well as throws balls, etc. Time will tell. I just thought everyone would like this important piece of info.

A West Virginia Thanksgiving

It was nice to visit the wonderful state of West Virginia again for the Thanksgiving season. This was the year to spend Thanksgiving with the Ellison's. As always, dad and mom went out of their way to make things special. With ham and turkey for Thanksgiving dinner, we were all stuffed for quite a while. Friday, for some insane reason, we waded through waves of people at the mall. It was a nice time and fun was had by all.

Oh Christmas Tree

From beginning to end the kids were excited as I endeavored to do the daunting task of putting up our Christmas tree. I know, you may say it's a little early, but last year we got so busy and didn't get to it until late in the season, so here it is. We are leaving today for West Virginia to visit my parents for Thansgiving so at least this is one less thing to worry about when we get home.

Ohio State - 42 Michigan - 39

Michigan played a tremendous game, but you know, somebody has to lose and tonght it just happened to be Michigan...barely. They say a picture is worth a thousand words and this picture says it best. Since 8 minutes into the game Michigan was chasing Ohio State relentlously. Oh well, who knows there just may be a rematch for the National Championship. I doubt it, but there is a slim chance. You always have to wish for the best.

It's Done

We have finally accomplished one of the many things on our procrastination list...family pictures. Tuesday evening , my wife and I realized that our kids were free of bumps, bruises and other facial blemishes so we scheduled a picture appointment. After finally finding a times when the kids were free from bumps and bruises, my wife gets her picture taken with a booger hanging from her nose (not really). We were happy with them...at least as happy as you can be with family pics.

Raking Leaves

Today was a beautiful day. It was in the upper 60's. So Vonnie and I decided to clean up outside...with the kids help. We raked and burned the leaves and we put up their toys in the basement (for the spring floods to wash).

Hay Ride '06

Friday evening nearly 80 people from our church gathered at the Zimmerman's for our annual hay ride. Neal and Carrie are excellent host for the event. They bar-b-qued chicken for the meal. We had three wagons connected for a neary 45 minute hay ride through the country. What a blast it was.

We Did It!

Today we did American and Christian duties...we voted. Of course, we make no bones about declaring our support to the Republican Party. Yesterday at church we had Citizen's Day. In the evening service, Rev. Tolley and myself divided up the moral issues up for grabs during this election. We tried to give Biblical principles for why they were wrong, such as gambling, sanctitiy of life, and sexual orientaton. It is my firm belief that a truly enlightened Christian cannot vote for a politician who lends his/her vote to killing babies, same sex marriage, civil unions and gambling. These are issues/sins that are damning America and when Christians stand by and vote for the people who promote them, where does the blood of the future generations lie. Enough preaching. I understand not everyone would agree with my thoughts, but think about, it's may be closer to the truth than you realize.

Another day. Another dinner.

Here we are, once again enjoying a wonderful meal before Christmas Program practice. As you can see, one of the eaters was growing very weary of all the chatter.

Tilly

Last night, over 30 people from the New Columbia congregation journeyed to Gratz Emmanuel Wesleyan church to watch them perform, Tilly. Their youth department was partnering with Lifeline Pregnancy Care Center to promote Pro-life. They did an outstanding job. I was unable to see it performed at Youth Challenge do to the fact that we were traveling that night. They put a lot of time and effort into the play. It was well worth the time and drive.

Ohio State...BLAHHHH!

On the way home from Youth Challenge we hadto travel through Columbus, OH. The Ohio State game was just over with Ohio State stomping the Gophers 44 - 0. We happened to stop at a Steak n Shake for supper. MISTAKE! It was loaded with red and grey Ohio State fans. If you follow sports at all you know that Ohio State and Michigan University is the biggest college football rivalry. Right now, with just a couple of games to go, both teams are undefeated. We may see a championship title game played by two rival undefeated teams. Well, as we were sitting there eating I kept hearing people running Michigan down. I could hardly take it. If you have ever eaten at Steak n Shake you realize that it seats approx. 50 - 60 people. So, as I was leaving I was fight a terrible battle with the little devil on my shoulder. He kapt whispering, "SAY SOMETHING". So I did. With my back to the door I said rather loudly, "Excuse me Ohio State, on Nov. 18 the boys from the Big House, (Michgan's Stadium) are coming to to town and you are goin' down." The place erupted. Boos were the word in the house, mixed with get out, loser, etc. The manager had already been harassing me, but at this time was laughing hystrically. What an exciting moment.

Busy Day

Sunday was a busy day. I was very grateful that Randy Tolley was able to preach Sunday morning. After arriving at home at nearly 2:30 am I was in no mood to preach. But there is no rest for the weary. We started our Christmas Program practice on Sunday. We practice from 2:00 to 4:00. So we have the cast over each Sunday. What a blast we have. After practice we prepared for a Missions service with the Middleton's. After which they stayed over at the parsonage for the night. Needless to say, I was grateful for my bed Sunday evening. Today is a new day, and I am feelin' fine (mostly).

Youth Challenge 2006

I am sure every blogger will be posting about Youth Challenge (with exception of Aaron McCarty who is still having a bad day). Myself and five other guys from our church went out this year to Youth Challenge. The theme - Beyond Survival. It was a great time. We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Batesville, home of the Batesville Casket Company. We made it out in 8 hours and made it back in 9 hours. We hit snow near DuBois, PA. Nearly a half inch was on the ground. It was a very exciting trip and it was great traveling with the guys from church. A great time was had by most!!

Mexicano

This past Thursday we ate at the new Mexican restaraunt in Selinsgrove. It is an authentic mexican restaraunt with excellent food. This is what I ordered. It is a Macho Burrito. It was every bit of 12 inches long and at least 4 inches wide. It was delicious. The name of the restaraunt name is Casa Sanchez. Ahhh. What a breath of fresh air.

Mr. Mansfield

Yesterday evening, Vonnie and I enjoyed the evening at the Silvermoon Banquet Hall. The reason for dining there...The Pregnancy Care Center was putting on a banquet in effort to raise money for the Center. It is something that I feel is a great causeto give too. We enjoyed an excellent meal of grilled chicken, steamed veggies and boiled potatoes. For desert we had cheese cake and I had nearly six cups of coffe...decaf of course. YUK! After all the comotion was over the special speaker was Mr. Stephen Mansfield, the author of "The Faith of George W. Bush". He did a great job. I realize the list of important people I have met doesn't come close to Jon Plank's but hey, it's a start.

We were planning on something exciting for Justin's 4th birthday, but he had an unexpected bout with pink eye that put those plans on hold. So we went to Hallenbeck's and had a cake and special dinner with Great grandparent's Howard & Charolette Hallenbeck, Don and Val, Lonnie, Ronnie and Laura. We hope to have a get together later with some of his friends. He loves to play with Eric Susan, Travis Zimmerman, Zeb Dreisbach and Ashley Plank. But until then....

Today, I mowed for the last time...hopefully. And of course I couldn't do it without the help of two eager hoodlums.

I recieved my new camera in the mail today. It is pretty cool. It is exactly the size of a credit card, a little thicker of course. These are basically the first pictures I took with the camera. One is of the new lanolium that was installed in our kitchen a couple of weeks ago. The other is of Justin and Kayla.

BREAKING NEWS

As promised before, we have breaking news to be given tonight. As with other news media, we are not on time. Tonight, at the New Columbia God's Missionary Church, we took a new step. A step I believe is a positive step in the right direction. We brought Rev. Randy Tolley on staff as Assistant Pastor. After we announced this step to the congregation this evening, Rev. Tolley preached an excellent message entitled, "When the Sacredness is Gone" out of 2 Samuel 6:1-7. His points were as follows: We have lost the sacredness for life; for marriage; for God's Word, for God's House; for God's man; for God's Day. It was an excellent truth. We are excited about working closely with our good friends Randy and Gwen. Welcome aboard Tolley's!

New Camera

I just purchased a new camera off of ebay. I am so excited to get it. I sold my other camera. I loved the camera, but it was just to bulky to carry around. As you can see, this camera is much smaller and compact. You can carry this in your shirt pocket without much hassel. I will post pics from it as soon as I can. I have convinced myself that if I had a smaller more portable camera I would take more pics. We will see.

AAAAARRRRRRGGHH!!

This is the wonderful feeling that I have within me as I am finishing one of my least exciting things to do....hang wallpaper. Last evening I spent the good part of 4 hours hanging wallpaper in my study. This evening I plan on hanging the wall boarder. I hate doing the hanging but I am excited to get it finished. My study is almost complete. The only thing that I have left to do is purchase a couch for people to sit on. My paper and border have a rustic look to them that matches the oak bookshelves that Paul Miller recently built. I'll will try to post some pics soon.

The Chatterbox Cafe

The past couple of years, Jeremy Fuller has asked if I would open the Chatterbox Cafe after the Conference Wide Rally. So, this past Friday night that is what we did. Last year we made a small profit, this year we did even better. I think peopel really like the idea of being able to eat at the snack shop since it has moved upstairs. If you remember having the snack shop downstairs you will likely remember a dark, dungy basement that stank like crazy. On top of that you had ping pong balls flying all around you and kids running and screaming. Yes it was quite an improvement taking it upstairs. It has been proven over and over that it was the right move. Now the only problem is, is that when you leave you smell like you have just left the grease pit because of all the smoke. Oh, but what a small problem it is compared to the many past problems.

Watsontown Yard Sales

This past Saturday was the Watsontown Community Yard sales. Seemingly the entire town turns into one gigantic line of yard sales. It is always an exciting day. It is also a time where our youth group goes throughout the town handing out free sodas with information about our church. Last year we handed out over 600 sodas. This year was a bum year for the sodas though. It was rainy and cold. People usually never turn down free things, but Saturday you just couldn't give the soda away. Oh, well. Better luck next year.

My Dream

Tuesday afternoon My wife and I took Daniel and Katie Brinkmann to Williamsport. Daniel is wanting to start playing the bass guitar, so we took him to Robert M. Sides to look at guitars and amps. I was just his day because he found a package deal on a Yamaha guitar with an amp and all of the trimmings for an awsome price. But, while we were there I wanted to check on an instrument that I desperately want to purchase....an Upright Bass. I have looked at them before but I haven't found one in my price range. And guess what? I didn't find one here either. A new on is out of the question. They run anywhere from $2,000.00 on up. But, I can buy a used one from $1,000.00 - $1,300.00. They took my name and number because there seems to be a waiting list. I told them not to call me for a couple years until I could do a couple of Krispy Kreme fund raisers. I would love to have one to playt in church, but most of all with guys like Aaron Mc Carty, Tim Calhoun, Nathaniel Tucker, and others. We want to get a little group together and an upright bass would be awsome. Who knows, maybe one day...people say that dreams do sometimes come true.

First Timers!

This past Thursday when we went to Harrisburg we wanted to take Justin and Kayla to a place where they could play and eat. We remembered a good friend, namely Jon Plank, talk about a restaraunt called Chuckie Cheese that was great for kids. So, we looked it up and went. It was our first time there and the kids loved it. Of course, Justin took two bites of pizza and then decided he wasn't hungry anymore. There was just too much for him to do. I have a sneaking suspision that we will have more experiences at Chuckie Cheese.

Takin' A Breather

This past Sunday, we closed out our fall revival. Rev. Duane Quesenberry from Salem, OH, did a fantastic job ministering from God's Word. His theme throughout the revival was "Seeing Specific Spiritual Growth". Our closing to revival was a little different this year. We closed with an afternoon service, which was also our 10th Anniversary service. After the afternoon service, my sister and I went to West Virginia for my dad's surgery. We spent most of the day at Charleston Memorial Hospital. Dad was scheduled for surgery at 8:30 am Monday morning. We were told at 2:30 pm that his surgery was postponed until Tuesday at 7:00 am due the the air conditioning going out in the Operating Room. So back we came to CMH Tuesday morning. Dad's surgery went well and he is doing fine. He is expected to come home Friday or Saturday. We got back to Penns Creek about 9:00 pm Tuesday. I had much catching up to do today in the office. Either Thursday or Friday, Vonnie, the kids and I are taking' a breather and going to Harrisburg for the day. I am looking forward to spending time with my family. Who knows I may buy a new gadget while we are there.

Just a Swingin'

Today, Justin and Kayla got a swing set. A man who attends our church has an older lady as a neighbor. A year and a half ago, she had bought a swing set for her grandchildren to play on while they were at her house. Then they moved away, so she was wanting to get rid of it. She told Eric, the man at our church, if he would move it, he could have it. So now it sits in our yard. It has rained all day, so Justin and Kayla just stand at the door looking out at the swing set. I am sure it will get used plenty before winter comes.

We're Off

Our fall church revival is up and going. Rev. Duane Quesenberry is our special speaker. Rev. Quesenberry pastor's a Bible Methodist church in Salem, OH. Last night he did a phenomenal job speaking on the parable of the soil. His objective was to help us realize that if we leave this revival with nothing, it will be our fault not God's because we are the ones who tend the soil. We either come with Solid (hard) soil, Shallow Soil, Strangled Soil, or Soft Soil. We are lookingforward to Rev. Quesenberry's ministry throughout this week. If you are interested, you are invited to attend. Services start each evening at 7:30.

My Debt Is Paid

This past Monday and Tuesday I finished paying off my debts. Over a year ago, I asked Aaron McCarty to ride with me out to Illinois to pick up a van I bought off of autotrader.com. He went. Just recently Aaron called and asked if I would like to ride with him to NC so that he could work on his upcoming recording. I said yes and what a hoot it was. (I really didn't consider the trip a hassle at all. We just refered to the trip as "the debt".) I had the privilege of meeting Jeff Tolbert of the Primitive Quartet. Mr. Tolbert is one fantastic guitar, mandolin, and banjo player. He is also producing Aaron's project. I also met Tim Surrett, a former member of the Kingsmen Quartet and the Isaac's. He ripped up the upright bass and dobro. The drummer's name was Rick. He was quite the nutcase. I encouraged Aaron to use this man more, but not everyone carries the same opinion on drums that I do. Rick was just awsome. Anyways to make a long story short, it was a great privilege to meet these men and watch them work. I encourage everyone to buy one of Aaron's CD's when it comes out. It looks like it is going to be a great project. It has a sound similar to the Isaac's. Aaron wrote 3 of the songs recorded on the project. Bottomline: Check it out when you can. It's some cool stuff.

Going Under

Today I had the privilege to go under ground and see a real coal mine in operation. Eric Susan, a friend of mine, along with Luke Martin, Jeff Strait and Dustin Mowery, work in the coal mines. One day I mentioned to Eric how cool it would be to one day be able to see a mine first hand. So, Eric set up an appointment. This (left) is a picture of Eric running the miner, which digs and grinds the coal. It really is a fasinating operation. They say they bring out 800 to 1,000 tons of coal a day. The first picture is of Dustin in their lunch room. They are nearly 2 1/2 mile back in the ground so they don't see daylight until closing time. Thanks Eric for setting things up!

Justin's 1st Golf Outing

My parents came up from West Virginia. With them they brought a gift for Justin. It was a set of golf clubs just his size. His was delighted. They come with a little bag with a shoulder strap and small towel. The next day, Tuesday, dad and I were going to play golf, but Justin got up before we left. When he saw what we were doing, he just had to go. I called the golf course and they said he could ride in the cart with us. So he quickly got his new putter and was in the car ready to go. He had a hoot but after about hole 14, he was ready for home. He slept nearly all the way home. Actually for his age, he can hit the ball fairly well. It looks like someday, dad and Justin will have some great times together on the golf course just like my dad and I have.

Crabb Family

For those whose listen to Southern Gospel you have probablly heard the sad news, the Crabb Family has announced that they will be disbanding August 2007. The Crabb family has had many wonderful songs such as, "Through the Fire, Please Forgive Me, He Came Looking For Me, The Reason That I Am Standing" A farewell tour is scheduled for this next summer.

IT"S HERE!!

As a member of the God's Missionary Church in the Susquehanna Valley, I am proud to announce that we now have our first billboard in place. As of August 10, 2006, a billboard was put in place along the strip in Selinsgrove, PA. It is located near the old holiness campground. It is a very attractive board and gives somewhat of an aggresive challenge to many associated with the "shallow Christian" world. Chatterbox Cafe'

We are finally back home. This summer has been a whirlwind. Our final big ordeal for the summer was Penns Creek Camp. It was an exciting time. I love campmeeting time. All of the people, the great sevices and food all make for a wonderful thing. Even though it is exciting, it is also tiring, especially for Vonnie and I along with Dwight and Lois Rine, Laura Ellison, Matt Maloyed, Solomon Shaffer, Nathaniel Mowery, and Joel Sickler, and Marie Plank. We are the Chatterbox Cafe' staff. Last year we started something different. We brought the snack shop up from the basement and gave it a facelift. It went over well, but this year it soared past our expectations. By serving soft serve ice cream, chicken fingers with homemade honey mustard, grilled chicken salads, steak salads, pizza, philly cheese steaks and a variety of other things, we brought in over $3,500.00. Our biggest night brought in over $500.00. It was great. We look forward to it every year. It is tiring but very rewarding. Thanks crew for your help!

Gone Fishing

Justin and I were able to take our first fishing trip. While we were in New York, we went to Grampa Hallenbeck's pond and cast our lines in. Justin caught 3 or 4 fish on his own, one being about a 13 inch large mouth bass. He was definetly thrilled. He wanted to "pet" them all before we threw them back. It was fun and now he is after me to go again or at least let him go to the creek out back and fish.

Howard & Charolette Hallenbeck

Congratulations are in order for Howard & Charolette Hallenbeck, my wife's grandparents. This past week they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. We were able to make a quick trip to New York (YUK) and help celebrate this special time in their lives. It was a short trip, but it was good to see everybody from up there again.

Mt. of Blessings Camp

Mt. of Blessings Camp is a District Camp of God's Missionary Church, Inc. that our church is heavily involved in. There are many in our congregation that got their spiritual start on the mountaintop. Some got sanctified there. Others have found spiritual renewal in those ten days. This year was no different. Peopel found the Lord as their personal Savior. Other were reclaimed and renewed. Things are on the upswing at Mt. of Blessings. I am told that in "days of old" this campground was a lively place. The tabernacle used to filled and overflowing. Well, that isn't exactly how it is now, but with God's help, we are again moving in that direction. This year we averaged around 55 kids in our morning VBS time in the Children's Tabernacle. Around 40 young people were regular attenders throughout camp. To me, that is very encouraging. The future looks bright and considering that God is still on the throne, no telling what will happen on the mountaintop in the future. This year, I was elected as Camp President so I desperately need prayer. But I am convinced that God still has something special in store for those who seek Him.

Clean Basement

As many may know, we live in a flood plane and every now and then we get water in our basement. In September of '04 we had 5 1/2 feet of water in there. So now everytime flooding is predicted, we get a little nervous. It has been raining here for a few days and the creek was rising. News flashes warned of severe flood so off to the basement we went. Thankfully, we were spared. One good thing came from it...a clean basement. It is spotless. Now if only my wife will keep it that way.:)

Renewal Vows

This past weekend I had the privilege to preform a renwal of wedding vows ceremony at a 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration, a first for me. Eldon and Marlyn Kohler, a couple that attends our church, had a beautiful ceremony in their back yard last Saturday afternoon. I have never seen a back yard as beautful as theirs. Sis. Kohler has a natural green thumb and had everything looking stunning. Their were over 100 people in attendance. Anyways, it was a neat experience and a joy to be part of.

Poison

Well, I am here to report my first bout of Poison Ivy. I am highly allergic to it and it seems that I can catch it by jist seeing it. Oh, well such is life. A freind of mine said that when he was little he had it a time or two, but then one day he ate some of it and ever since then he hasn't got it. It sounds tempting and I almost tried it until I was reminded that what enters your body must exit it. I think you get the drift. Knowing my luck, I'd catch it. Are there any other suggestions?

Sunday, June 11, 2006 was a sad day for the Ellison's. Sunday evening was the last service in which Steve and Sarah Miller would attend our church. They have answered the call to an administrative position at Northwest Indian Bible School (NIBS), in Montana. Since we came here to New Columbia, a special friendship was made with the Ellison's and Miller's. They have been a tremendous asset to our congregation. For the past two years they have been our youth pastor, in which they have done a wonderful job. They were the kind of people every church would like to have. They were faithful to the services, to their labors, and in their support. They plan to leave Penns Creek Friday morning. Truly we are losing a great family and also some great friends. We wish you the best Steve and Sarah.

Philadelphia

Wednesday evening we left for Philadelphia, PA. One of our young people had a surgery scheduled for early Thursady morning do we went down on Wednesday evening. After the surgery on Thursday, we decided to do a little sight seeing. We were able to see the Liberty Bell, Congressional Hall, US Federal Reserve (we were given $100.00...of course it was all shredded and in a plastic bag). We saw Camden Yards and Citizen Bank Field, home of the Philadelphia Phillies. We saw the steps that "Rocky Balboa" ran up in his training to fight "Apollo Crede" and many other interesting things. It truly is a town filled with history. Of course, we didn't see everything, so it would really be nice to return some day. It was really neat to see just days after Memorial Day. There were still some Memorial Day decorations standing. I was reminded again, what a privilege it is to be an American no matter how rounchy things seem to be at times. I also participated in an anti-gambling rally...sortof. There were a bunch of people gathered protesting gambling in PA. As we drove by I hollered out the window my support. All in all we had a great time. We stayed at the Sheraton Center City on the 21st floor. What an awsome sight to look out across the city at night with everything lit up. One thing we found that Lewisburg has on Philly is that our Dunkin Donuts is open 24 hrs. Every Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts we found was closed by 9:00 pm. What a shame. OK enough is enough. Bottom line...Philly was great!

Billboards

I am very excited. Our area God's Missionary Churches are soon going to have billbords in the Susquehanna Valley. These churches include New Columbia, Beavertown, Penns Creek, Millmont, Sunbury, Newport, Duncannon, and Pillow. But, we could use some help from your creative minds. We want to have short, creative and catchy messages on these boards. An example would be...a picture of a pencil with an eraeser on both ends...the message is "Life without Christ...has no point." Another example would be....a picture of a candle with the flame blown out and smoke waving from the wick...the message is "Has your relationship with Christ done the same?" Box Seats

This past Saturday I had the privilege to once again announce the Penn View Girls & Guys softball games with my good friend Doug Rine. What a hoot. The announcers box is set up behind the backstop on top of the schools panel truck. I realize it isn't as plush as the announcers booth at Wrigley's Field (Chicago Cubs), but it works. The High School/College Guys game was unique. It was a high scoring game of 29 - 27 in favor of the High School. It was a game filled with so many errors it made the elementary game look professional. Oh well. It was fun any how. Until next time....

Improvement Is Good

My parents were in this past week and as usual, my dad and I took advantage of the time together to play a couple rounds of golf. Now, my dad is a feirce competitor, (even though he says he's not). So it is always my goal to beat him. The problem is, dad gets to play alot in West Virginia. I usually just play when we are together. So, when dad and I played on Tuesday, he already had 4 rounds under his belt. Me, I hadn't played since last summer. Needless to say I was a little rusty. The first round I played I shot a 106. NOT GOOD. I don't think that I have ever shot over 100. This was at White Deer Golf Course. On Thursday, we played again. This time at Liberty Valley Country Club in Danville. The good news is, this time I shot a 94. I was defintely impressed. With that kind of improvement, I should be to my usual game of 84/85 by my next round. I can't wait.

HELP!!!

I am in need of help (more ways than one). My son, Justin, has been rather persistent lately about wanting a dog FOR A PET ONLY!! Part of me says no way, just buy him a book of dogs. Another part of me says, hey, he's a boy. He needs a dog. I need some input people. Can you help me out?

ELIGIBLE FOR DEATH!

Today the jury finished its diliberations on wether or not Moussaoui, the terrorist who was captured, was eligible for the death penalty. Their answer was "yes" on all counts. To this, I lend my support. Of course, I am an advocate of the death penalty. I believe in justice. This man was part of a major terrrorist act that claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people. For this, he should, and must, face the consequences for his actions. I am presently listening to family members who have lost loved ones in this terrorist act on Fox News. To hear their emotions and heartache only enforces my belief that justice must be served. As the verdict was read, a bilgerent Moussaui hollered and cursed America and all who love it. I cast my vote with the jury's decision.

Immigrations

I want to weigh in very briefly on the immigration issue. I just hope that terrorist orginizations do not switch and try to start recruting hispanics. You talk about global warming. With the millions of undocumented, illegal, aliens, America would quickly slide into oblivion. I say let them work their way to being registered and legal or rope them up and send them back. No matter how hard they work, illegal status is illegal staus no matter how you look at it. I can't believe that thousands of illegal aliens had the nerve to protest in California and then on top of it they waved their Mexican flags. I have two words... Adios, Amigos!!
